Knowledge is a true organ of sight Essay Example

Knowledge is a true organ of sight Essay Knowledge is a true organ of sight, not the eyes is a quite interesting quote by Panchatantra. To answer this question it would be easiest that one would first translate it into an easy understandable sentence with a clear message, since this quote can have multiple meanings. The way I found this quote to make the most sense is when I translated it into the following sentence; Knowledge is a real consultable source of seeing, not the eyes. I find this the best translation to understand this quote, since it is very clear and straightforward. The next questions one could ask him/herself is: Is the quote true, and till what extent is this quote true. Is the quote Knowledge is a true organ of sight, not the eyes true or not? To say if the quote is true or not is a big statement to make right away, therefore I found It easiest to look at an example which could help to understand this quote better. A good example to start off with is this: When one is watching television and one sees something on the news about an arrested murderer and one sees his face one might think, he looks like such a nice guy, but one knows that he did commit murder and therefore is probably not such a nice guy as one thought initially. What you know to be true and what might seem true to the eyes is not always the same, this does not mean that it is never true but the eye can be misleading. We will write a custom essay sample on Knowledge is a true organ of sight specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Knowledge is a true organ of sight specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Knowledge is a true organ of sight specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer In this case the eyes failed to lead you to the truth, but because you linked your knowledge to what you saw a correct image got created, therefore we can say that cooperation between both sources organs of sight created a correct image, had one organ failed than we could say that a faulty image would be there. An obvious question one could ask himself/herself states: What about a blind man? This is a quite difficult question to answer, to answer it we will have to ask ourselves: what do we actually mean by sight. If we interpret it the scientific way we can say that the blind man has no sight, since no light which is entering the eyes is being interpret correctly. If we look at it in an different way by interpreting sight to be analyzing what is around us, the blind man will have sight, since he can analyze specific objects, however he will need different sources organs to do so, for instance his hands. We know blue is blue, since we were told when we where little that the color we see is blue. Our sight was matched with what we know to be blue. Our knowledge is being matched with our sight, so that we know what something is. If one of these organs also known as sources does not work, or doesnt work properly a faulty image can be created. To prevent a faulty image to be created it is good to depend on both sources instead of only calling knowledge a true organ of sight. When taking this in account it can be said that the quote by Panchatantra Knowledge is a true organ of sight, not the eyes might not be fully correct, since the human depends on both the sources, knowledge and sight. It therefore only applies till a certain extent. When we relate this quote to science a whole new view gets created, when we look at biology we can see that observation by eye sight is needed to gain knowledge most of the time. Eye sight is initially needed for the first researchers to have gained this information. How would we have had all this knowledge if we did not find it out initially, it was initially found out by observing by eye, and therefore the eyes can also be seen as a true organ of sight. If eye sight was not available human beings would not have gained a lot of knowledge, and therefore human beings have to rely on both sources of sight and not just one.

Medieval Gift Ideas

Medieval Gift Ideas Guide note: This feature was originally posted in December of 1997, and was updated in December of 2010. If youre looking for that special gift for a medieval history buff or if you like medieval history and you want to share it with your friends perhaps this page can help. Below are a few gift ideas that can bring a little medieval charm to todays holiday season. Gift projects are reasonable in cost, and if you start soon you can have them finished by December 24th. Or, take a lesson from medieval times and give your gifts on Twelfth Night January 6th. The Artistic Touch Do you enjoy crafts-work? Are you good with a needle? Then perhaps youd like to make a gift for that special someone. Candles Candle-making was an ability that many medieval men and women were likely to know. If you know how to make candles or would like to try your hand at this rewarding craft, you may wish to stick to beeswax (instead of paraffin, which wasnt used until the 19th century, or tallow, which is difficult to work with) and make hand-dipped candles in order to keep the project medieval. Beeswax has a lovely fresh odor and does not require the addition of any scents, but it can be expensive. Whether you are new to candle-making or a practiced hand, please be sure to take all safety precautions. Clothing You may wish to create a medieval costume even if you dont belong to a reenactment group, it will look splendid at a masquerade or Renaissance fair. For a really authentic look, embroider the work using period embroidery techniques and period designs, or enhance it with hand-woven braids. If an entire costume isnt up your alley, you can use these techniques on something as simple as a cape or a scarf. Calligraphy If youre practiced in the art of calligraphy, try inscribing a medieval or Renaissance poem (or a verse from an epic) on parchment-style paper (real parchment can be very expensive). Shakespeare is always a hit, particularly his sonnets. Food, Glorious Food Thinking of a special holiday dinner? Try some medieval recipes. And forget that fruitcake go with a few medieval desserts instead. Gingerbread Cake is a period Christmas food, and Shortbreads are not only period but easy to present in a canister or, for a more authentic package, in a basket. If the recipient of your gift likes to cook as well, include the recipe hand calligraphed on parchment paper, rolled into a scroll and tied with a ribbon.   The Medieval Touch Whatever gift you choose to give, you can add a little medieval charm with a hand-calligraphed gift-tag (try parchment-look paper) or by wrapping the gift in fabric instead of paper (which was not really a disposable product in the middle ages). Decorate with fabric ribbons, dried flowers, berries, or pine cones. A personalized, hand-calligraphed bookmark with a holiday message is a great accompaniment to a book. Many of the customs we observe today began in the middle ages. For more about medieval Christmas, please see Medieval Christmas Traditions.

Management Info Systems Individual Work wk6 Essay

Management Info Systems Individual Work wk6 - Essay Example Walmart have improved its data communication system to suppliers by adding various customized webs from where customers can access better and efficient services. For instance, Procter &Gamble, and Warner-Lambert websites (Bidgoli, 2002). The primary goal is to lower prices and enhance the level of customer services with the suppliers and general customers. Walmart has also engaged a web-based access system where providers can access updates and essential information about significant developments in the company. This will reduce the cost of transportation and enhance the flow of information from one supply to another. The web-based access system will also enable suppliers to reach potential customers with much ease hence more sales and general profitability of Walmart Company. Through the various data application programs, Walmart and its supplier will have a better communication hence increased efficiency in service delivery (Bidgoli, 2002). Different data communication application are in use in Walmart Company. Such application includes; customized websites for their suppliers, Web-based access application, Wireless technology application, vehicle management systems, and two-way text messaging application and security system applications (Bidgoli, 2002). Each application is designed to enhance service in a particular area within the industry. For instance, the security system applications are designed to improve supplier’s safety and protect providers from accessing each other supplier’s data. This gives them confidence to explore in diverse areas and take extra supply measures without fear that their counterparts may interfere with them. The two-way text messaging system ensures that material handling resources are directed to the locations where they serve the best. This enhances productivity and reduces material wastage. Web-based applications on the other hand ensures that suppliers can transact

America's Nuclear Meltdown towards Global Zero Essay

America's Nuclear Meltdown towards Global Zero - Essay Example †¢ Most important concepts, theories, or ideas needed to understand & solve problem? In order to understand the reluctance of countries towards achieving a unanimous agreement to abandon nuclear warfare, it is important to understand not only the reasons which led to the development and continued maintenance of their nuclear military sections (as given in the article) but also the reasons why a Global Zero is necessary and important for the security of the global population. Further, the warfare, political power plays and hidden motives and feelings of the countries should also be considered- what are they fearing or hoping? †¢ How author defines these? For the author, these reasons revolve against geographical conflicts, defensive strategy and political decisions keeping in mind the actions of the rival countries. It appears from the article that all countries truly want to achieve a nuclear weapon free world but actions of the others are preventing them from reaching that level of trust. †¢ Does the author take any assumptions regarding these as for granted or make any questionable assumptions? The only assumption made is that the intention of the countries involved is to eventually get rid of nuclear armaments, as evidenced from explicit political statements. Even if this isn’t true, the implicit intentions cannot be judged as it would have moved the tone of the article away from neutral and factual grounds and into an opinionated piece.

Charging Overweight Passengers by the Pound Essay Example for Free

Charging Overweight Passengers by the Pound Essay In the world today, obesity is becoming a serious problem that affects ones life in different situations. One of these situations is flying in the airplane. David Landsel in his article Some Airlines Make Obese Passengers Buy Two seats pointed out that different airlines are taking some policies concerning this issue. However, united airlines are not taking any policies. Southwest and Midwest airlines claimed that overweight passengers should buy an extra seat. If the airplane is not full, and more seats are available, a refund will be returned to the passenger. American airlines put limitations on the services that the airline provides, but passenger is not forced to purchase an extra seat. Air France travelers that suffered from obesity will have the opportunity to buy the extra seat with a 25 percent discount. With these different deals about the fat passengers, there is surely a disagreement about accepting these policies or rejecting them. Obese passengers should buy two airline seats. This is because of several reasons that may be benefit for the obese passengers and the normal weight passengers. So this will help make everyone more comfortable. Some critics claim that obliging obese passengers to buy an extra seat is a ridiculous statement. They should not be penalized for something that they may not be able to deal with. They might have a disease that makes them that way. They argued that this is discrimination to obese people and should not be practiced. But this is not true. Discrimination against someone for something is based on an opinion without objective truth. In this case, it is completely obvious that the passenger is taking up more space than the accommodated seat space. So the argument of the opposing side fails to take into account. Other critics argued that airline tickets are sold per individual not per pound, and people should not be penalized because of their weight. This is a non convincing argument since airlines sell tickets by seat not per person. If someone takes up to two seats, he should have to buy two seats. That is how it is and should be. Obese people sitting in a single seat can become a serious issue. Passenger will seriously squeeze the passengers beside him, leading discomfort and cause a struggle to get out of the seat to the toilet. No one would accept an obese person sitting next to him squishing and taking more than his space for the whole entire flight. It is not fair to the people sitting next to fat travelers who are crushed and uncomfortable for the whole flight. Skinny people will be crowded out by overweight people. Second, airplane seats and seat belts are designed to hold an average weight of 170 pounds, so seat belts fail to restrain heavy passengers. This poses a safety risk for them on the aircraft. Another airline obesity issue is that obese passengers can affect the balance of the airplane by adding more weight. This excess weight requires more work for the plane to move a heavier object which makes the airplane sometimes in a dangerous position. One third argument that supports the statement that obese travelers should buy two airlines seats is that everyone is entitled to hundred percent of the seat for which he paid. Severely, obese people spill over to the next seat that is occupied by the person that purchased the ticket to that seat. Sometimes, fat passengers took up one third to one half of the other passenger seat space. So if any person takes up more than one seat space, he must purchase the additional space he requires. Urging passengers with high body mass to purchase an extra seat is a fair policy that needs to be done by the airlines in order to keep all their flights safe and comfortable for all the passengers. So, obese people must know that airlines are taking these policies to protect them. Deltas Suzan Elliott states that the airline has no plans to implement any policy that discriminates against any of our passengers. This is how all the airlines think about this issue, but the difference is the way they practice these policies and deal with them with regard to the refund and the cost of the extra seat.

Oliver Cromwell a Hero not a Villain Essay -- Leaders Politics English

Was Oliver Cromwell a hero or a villain? I think Oliver Cromwell was a hero. He was good – hearted and ambitious, and he wanted England to be at it’s best with no corruption and unfair methods. He thought Charles was not doing the right thing, so he worked hard and got him executed. Oliver Cromwell was a Member of Parliament (MP) and was against king Charles and his ways, so he worked hard and got the king executed. After that, he got offered the post of king, but he refused it, but was Lord Protector of the country. After some time, he dismissed parliament (because he thought they were getting selfish and greedy), and ruled on his own until he died of an infection on the 3rd of September 1658. Lots of people thought of Cromwell as a hero because he got the king executed for his bad ways and got the country in a really good, wealthy position. He put things right. Cromwell was a hero.â€Å" We need a person of great honesty and courage to clear the country of evil men making their riches from our poor starving and miserable countrymen. In other words, Oliver Cromwell†. The poor man’s guardian, 1831. These people were trying to show that Oliver Cromwell was perfect for the country. It is a newspaper so it would most probably be quite reliable. But you can never say because it is the ‘Poor Man’s Guardian’, and only focuses on the poor people’s views (whom Cromwell helped a lot). It does not state the views of wealthy people (whom Cromwell did not help too much). Oliver was a hero. He was brave rather than cruel, he did what he needed to and acted in god’s name when he killed lots in Drogheda. He did not mean to kill innocent peop le. He killed fewer than many are assuming. â€Å"It’s not fair to say he was like Hitler or Mussolini, ... ...t town on a Sunday’ or ‘no mending a dress on a Sunday’ (basically, no work on Sundays). No one was allowed to enjoy themselves because of these harsh rules. He did not allow people to play, even a small game of football. He banned Christmas. Just because his puritan beliefs, why should everyone else suffer? Just because he believes in it, why should he force other people to? Shouldn’t they have their own freedom? Cromwell was a villain. He just wanted others to suffer. Many people hated Cromwell, but about the same number thought of him as god. People’s opinions and impression on him were different, but personally I think he was a hero. He put some discipline into the country (there is none now), he tried to train people to be good and brave, but unfortunately, many rebelled. They did not get his policy. Many did. Oliver Cromwell, overall, I think he was a hero.

Political Parties of 1800s Essay

The Democratic and Republican Parties can trace their roots back to the 1800s, but some of the most interesting stories in American political history spring from parties which enjoyed flashes of glory before fading away for good. The extinct political parties of the 1800s include organizations which were successful enough to put candidates in the White House. And there were also others that were just doomed to inevitable obscurity. Here is a listing of some significant political parties who are no longer with us, in roughly chronological order: Federalist Party The Federalist Party is considered the first American political party. It advocated a strong national government, and prominent Federalists included John Adams and Alexander Hamilton. The Federalists did not build a sustaining party apparatus, and the party’s defeat in the election of 1800 led to its decline. It essentially ceased to be a national party after 1816. (Jeffersonian) Republican Party The Jeffersonian Republican Party, which, of course, supported Thomas Jefferson in the election of 1800, was formed in opposition to the Federalists. The Jeffersonians tended to be more egalitarian than the Federalists. Following Jefferson’s two terms in office, James Madison won the presidency on the Republican ticket in 1808 and 1812, followed by James Monroe in 1816 and 1820. The Jeffersonian Republican Party then faded away. The party was not a forerunner of the present day Republican Party. At times it was even called a name which seems contradictory today, the Democratic-Republican Party. National Republican Party The National Republican Party supported John Quincy Adams in his unsuccessful bid for reelection in 1828 (there had been no party designations in the election of 1824). The party also supported Henry Clay in 1832. The general theme of the National Republican Party was opposition to Andrew Jackson and his policies. The National Republicans generally joined the Whig Party in 1834. The National Republican Party was not a forerunner of the Republican Party, which formed in the mid-1850s. Anti-Masonic Party The Anti-Masonic Party formed in upstate New York in the late 1820s, following the mysterious death of a member of the masonic order, William Morgan. It was believed that Morgan was killed before he could reveal secrets about the masons and their suspected influence in American politics. The party, while seemingly based on conspiracy theory, gained adherents. And the Anti-Masonic Party actually held the first national political convention in America. Its convention in 1831 nominated William Wirt as its presidential candidate in 1832. Wirt was an odd choice, having once been a mason. And while his candidacy was not successful, he did carry one state, Vermont, in the electoral college. Part of the appeal of the Anti-Masonic Party was its fiery opposition to Andrew Jackson, who happened to be a mason. The Anti-Masonic Party faded into obscurity by 1836 and its members drifted into the Whig Party, which also opposed the policies of Andrew Jackson. Whig Party The Whig Party was formed to oppose Andrew Jackson’s policies and came together in 1834. The party took its name from a British political party which had opposed the King, as the American Whigs said they were opposing  Ã¢â‚¬Å"King Andrew.† The Whigs candidate in 1836, William Henry Harrison, lost to the Democrat Martin Van Buren. But Harrison, with his log cabin and hard cider campaign of 1840, won the presidency (though he would only serve for a month). The Whigs remained a major party throughout the 1840s, winning the White House again with Zachary Taylor in 1848. But the party splintered, mainly over the issue of slavery. Some Whigs joined the Know-Nothing Party, and others, most notably Abraham Lincoln, joined the new Republican party in the 1850s. Liberty Party The Liberty Party was organized in 1839 by anti-slavery activists who wanted to take the abolitionist movement and make it a political movement. As most leading abolitionists were adamant about being outside politics, this was a novel concept. The party ran a presidential ticket in 1840 and 1844, with James G. Birney, a former slaveholder from Kentucky as their candidate. The Liberty Party drew meager numbers, garnering only two percent of the popular vote in 1844. It has been speculated that the Liberty Party was responsible for splitting the anti-slavery vote in New York state in 1844, thereby denying the state’s electoral vote to Henry Clay, the Whig candidate and assuring the election of the slave-owning James Knox Polk. But that assumes Clay would have drawn all the votes cast for the Liberty Party. Free-Soil Party The Free-Soil Party came into being in 1848, and was organized to oppose the spread of slavery. The party’s candidate for president in 1848 was former president Martin Van Buren. Zachary Taylor of the Whig Party won the 1848 presidential election, but the Free-Soil Party did elect two senators and 14 members of the House of  Representatives. The motto of the Free-Soil Party was â€Å"Free Soil, Free Speech, Free Labor and Free Men.† After Van Buren’s defeat in 1848 the party faded and members were eventually absorbed into the Republican Party when it formed in the 1850s. The Know-Nothing Party The Know-Nothing Party emerged in the late 1840s as a reaction to immigration to America. After some success in local elections with campaigns rife with bigotry, former president Millard Fillmore ran as the Know-Nothing candidate for president in 1856. Fillmore’s campaign was a disaster and the party soon dissolved. Greenback Party The Greenback Party was organized at a national convention held in Cleveland, Ohio in 1875. The formation of the party was prompted by difficult economic decisions, and the party advocated the issuing of paper money not backed by gold. Farmers and workers were the party’s natural constituency. The Greenbacks ran presidential candidates in 1876, 1880, and 1884, all of whom were unsuccessful. When economic conditions improved, the Greenback Party faded into history.

Senior Student

If I were a newly appointed procurement manager at a company or an organization that there has not been yet proper procurement procedure I will try to convince the CEO of that company and organization by raising some importance point related to the procurement procedure. Those include: 1. It is easily to prepare and controlling the budget of the company: it can reduce the waste of spending on unnecessary things by using the fix budget or flexible budget strategy to control over purchasing products. 2.It can avoid of cheat and mistake on purchasing products: after we got that form we can make sure that the product that need to order is well accepted because it has to be check by the officer or CEO to confirm the purchase. 3. It is like a road map to show where the product shall be taken and how the purchase be made. 4. Build good relationship with the suppliers: because we need to select the supplier who we can be trust and can be work with us for long time and realizable so we need t o select the potential suppliers to be the part supplier of our company. . Saving money: after we have the part supplier we can save some money because when we select someone to be our part supplier they will provide us a premium price or when we use bulk purchase. Here is the simple plan diagram of the procurement procedure diagram: 1. Check for the department budget or company budget before request or propose a form. 2. Written a requesting form of what you want to purchase and the purpose of purchasing. 3. Get a signature from the authorization person to validate the purchasing order. 4.Get that requesting form to purchasing department or procurement department to check for the necessity of the product order and the available product in stock or should buy them from the suppliers. 5. After the purchasing has already made up they shall take the requesting form to the financial department to get an approval or a direction where the requesting shall go next. 6. In case if the purcha sing has reach the maximum of financial approval it has to go to the principle officer or CEO to get approval before the purchase can be made or done. 7.After we got the approval next we has to find the ways that the product transport to the department. 8. After the product arrival we need to check for the quantity and quality of the product. 9. Next we should evaluate the supplier performance whether they provide us a good delivery or can be used as the part supplier or not. 10. After that send the product that is done send to user department. Diagram: Check for budget Written a requesting form Get approval by the authorize person Send to purchase or procurement department Send to financial departmentGet approval from the principle or CEO Check for delivery term or strategies Check for the product quality Evaluate the supplier performance Send to the user department Here is the ways to communicate our new procedure for coordinate effectively in the future: 1. Get a signature from t he CEO to approve that our new procedure is legally accepted 2. Take it to the human resource department and ask for the meeting of all team leaders in each department. 3. Explain the entire team leader about the new process nicely in the manner of convincing rather than used the position power. 4.Observe from what they thinking and gather the feedback to adjust in case of the reasonable argument. 5. Hosting an unofficial meeting to maintain the relationship with other team leader by showing them that you pay respect to them and willing to accept the feedback. 6. In case of the convincing is not acceptable we can use the position power by working with the CEO to enforce the procedure so that everybody has to listen. In conclusion as we are the new procurement manager we should understand how to convince people to get your point and what make your speech delivery effectively and catchable to all the audience.

The Funeral †A Short Story

The Funeral – A Short Story Free Online Research Papers He sat there, a picture of age and death, his massive head lying on his withered shoulders. His nose, once sharp and elegant, was now bulbous. His eyes were reduced to liquid pools, clouded with confusion. Strands of wispy white hair stood on his head. Tom held a pensive expression on his face as he sat on the armchair looking forlornly at the blue-laced precious moments photo album. The photo album, although plain and simple, held fond and precious memories for the old loving couple. As he flipped through pages after pages, memories of the past reeled like a film in his mind. From the beginning of their relationship, where sparks flew endlessly, he never thought he could ever love someone so deeply. Never. Even now that she was gone, their love was not dead yet. Her departure had not made any difference in his love for her. All around him, copious cries of sadness from family and friends were overwhelming. Yet, he seemed indifferent to everything, totally withdrawn into a world of his own†¦ â€Å" I am sorry.† These were the three cold, hard and merciless words the doctor had slammed right into Tom’s face when he came out of the operation theatre. Although short and simple, those words had magnified to be louder than anything else he had ever heard and at that moment, everything seemed to come to a halt. â€Å"How could it be† Tom was angst-stricken and devastated. Immense grief paralyzed him. His wife, Mary, had been diagnosed with the second stage of cancer last month. She only consented to undergo the operation after much persuasion from Tom and the doctor. Tom had told her that her worries were uncalled for as the success rate was ninety percent. She was not going to die. They would fulfill their promises of staying together forever. Alas, the unexpected happened. She never managed to step out of the operation theatre alive. Their dream of a sedentary and happy life was crushed Tom realized the exact scene that had taken place only a few hours ago vividly. But it already seemed like forever. He continued reminiscing about the past of Mary and him as he flipped to the last page of the photo album. Suddenly, Tom’s daughter sensed that something was amiss. Tom had not moved an inch for the past hour. She moved towards her father and started nudging him. â€Å" Dad? Dad!† She exclaimed. Tom did not stir the least bit. He had breathed his last while the rest of the family and friends were still crying copiously, mourning over the loss of their beloved Mary. The next day, the funeral was held. Both Tom’s and Mary’s photos were placed on the altar, and their bodies placed next to each other in a specially customized coffin. Tom had joined Mary in the Netherworld on the same day. A quick survey/sampling of property in several housing areas in Jahmsikhel indicated that a house with market value of Rs 3.1 corer could be rented for approximately Rs 60,000 per month and the house with the market value of Rs 1.01corer in Harisiddhi could be rented for appro ximately for Rs 20,000 per month. Assuming that, there are two couples, each with Rs 40,000 per month. All two have the same gross income in salary and the filing status for income tax purposes. The first couple, designated as Owners,† purchases a home. The second couple, Renters†, decides to rent. The home buyers (Owners and Capita lists) are married and file joint returns. (Their income will be itemized later.) The market costs of their houses at Jhamsikhel is 3.1 corer and in Harisiddhi its 1.09 corer. (For tax purposes in Jhamsikhel Rs 75000 per year and for Harisiddhi it is allocated Rs 18,750 per month for the building.) In addition to that for the building insurance for Jhamsikhel @ 0.12% Rs 1500 per month and Rs 750 per month, Rs 5000 per month at Jhamsikhel and Rs 2000 per month at Harisiddhi, for maintenance cost at Jhamsikhel Rs 3000 per month and at Harisiddhi Rs 1000 per month is allocated. The Renters invest their Rs 20,000 in a money fund that yields 6% yearly. They reinvest the interest income into the fund each year. In the initial year, the Renters pay rent of same amount which is not changed of Rs 20,000. Throughout the 20-year period of the analysis, all variables increase annually at the 6% annual inflation rate. These variables include the couples’ salaries, loan service charge, and loan processing charge, property valuation charge, and mortgage loan payment, building insurance premium, maintenance cost, electricity, water and other utilities costs, depreciation on building, property tax and rental expenses. When discounting after-tax cash flows, we use a 6% interest rate that represents these couples’ market interest rate under inflation.
